A Cinco de Mayo celebration at a South Bronx restaurant took an unexpected turn after a group of women allegedly walked out on a $112 tab, leaving the owner frustrated.
Britney Cariño, owner of Talavera Cantina, has not called the police just yet. Instead, she’s calling the accused dine-and-dashers out online.
Cariño says the group came in during the holiday rush, ordered tacos, guacamole, chips and four frozen margaritas and then slipped out the door with the check still sitting on the table.
“They took the entire tray of the check. She put it in her purse and they left,” Cariño said.
Surveillance video posted to social media shows the women inside the restaurant shortly before leaving. Cariño says the place was packed for Cinco de Mayo, but this was the only group that didn’t pay.
“You ate all of your food, you drank all of your drinks, and then you just walked out. That’s insane to me,” she said.
Despite the frustration, Cariño isn’t calling the police yet. She hopes the women come back, settle the bill, and make things right.
“If they come in and pay, that’s fine. If they don’t, I will file that report,” she said.
