Police confirm that a man is dead after a large fire tore through a building in Mott Haven.

Firefighters responded to a fire at 2592 3rd Ave. minutes after 5 a.m. on Wednesday. The FDNY says there is a grocery store on the first floor of the building.

Police say the man was pronounced dead by EMS at the scene.

About 141 fire and EMS personnel responded and are still working to put out the fire.
