An organization in Hunts Point is serving the community as a one-stop shop of sorts for people seeking employment or getting their GED.
Workforce BX Client Rebecca Rivera spoke to News 12 about her journey to enrolling.
"It was like the wind brought me in here, and I opened a door, and they all welcomed me here," shared Rivera.
Rivera is working on obtaining her GED through the organization.
"I had kids, I had, you know, had to work and get a job. Now everybody is getting older, so I have more time for myself," she explained.
Miguel Calderon, the manager of Workforce and community development, shared that Workforce BX has helped several in the community like Rivera, especially when it comes to finding employment.
"Close to 5,000, 6,000 people that we've placed. And in the 15 years I've been working here. In all capacities of work, you name it. Transportation, health, warehouse, office work," said Calderon.
According to Calderon, last year the organization received a grant from the Economic Development Corporation, allowing them to collaborate with other community-based organizations.
"Casita Maria, The Point, The Hope Program. It allows us to collaborate and work together to try and connect local residents with local jobs," shared Calderon.
On track to getting her GED, when it comes to what's next for Rivera, she says the sky's the limit.
"They've been talking to me about college and stuff and I'm like 'okay! I'm open to anything. Like this is amazing," Rivera explained.
