Three years after the Oct. 7 attacks in Israel, a Brooklyn community is vowing not to forget.
Elected officials and Jewish community leaders in Gravesend are calling for a permanent Oct. 7 memorial at Mickey Kairay Garden.
More than 1,000 people, including American citizens, were killed in the attacks, and more than 200 others were taken hostage by Hamas.
Jewish Community Relations Council of New York CEO Mark Treyger says the memorial will honor those who were killed and ensure their stories are never forgotten.
“Oct. 7 was the most brutal terror attack against Jews since the Holocaust,” Treyger said. “We remember. We built, we tried to heal, bring folks together. The haters love to destroy a race and divide. They will not have the last word.”
Community leaders say the memorial will be privately funded and maintained.
