3 dead, 6 others hurt after car strikes pedestrians, other cars in the Bronx
Law enforcement sources say three women have died after they were struck by a car in the Allerton section of the Bronx. The car also hit multiple other vehicles, injuring at least six others.
It unfolded just before 2:15 p.m. Friday at Allerton and Holland avenues.
Surveillance footage obtained by News 12 shows a white Mercedes-Benz fly through the busy intersection, plowing through a group of people in the crosswalk and hitting multiple cars waiting at the light.
The NYPD says the 81-year-old man behind the wheel of the Mercedes appeared to have suffered a medical episode when he lost control of the car.
Police say four women were hit by the Mercedes and rushed to Jacobi Hospital. Three of them were later pronounced dead. Their ages and identities were not immediately available.
According to the NYPD, the Mercedes then rear-ended two cars. The force from the impact caused those cars to strike two additional cars.
The six remaining victims were likely occupants of the cars that were hit, according to the NYPD. Paramedics took them to a nearby hospital, where investigators say they are expected to recover.
Police say EMS also transported the 81-year-old driver to the hospital. He is listed in stable condition.
All parties involved in the crash remained on scene, according to the NYPD.
No arrests have been made.
