The NYPD released bodycam footage of its officers responding to the ICE-involved shooting in the Marble Hill section of the Bronx on Thursday.
The footage was released on the NYPD's social media pages on Friday morning. It shows NYPD officers arrive on scene, where 28-year-old Oscar Belgal is on the ground, wounded and cuffed, surrounded by ICE agents.
The shooting happened around 4 p.m. near Marble Hill Avenue and West 225th Street. The NYPD responded minutes later.
As the officers first drive up to the scene, one officer is heard stating, "He has a gun," referring to one of the ICE agents, who was wearing a construction vest and wielding a long gun.
Belgal suffered a gunshot wound to the neck, according to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch. She says the officers opened fire while Belgal sat inside his Honda CRV with his 5-year-old son in the back seat.
The bodycam video shows NYPD officers rendering aid to Belgal, who The Department of Homeland Security referred to as a "criminal illegal alien" from the Dominican Republic.
The footage then captures NYPD officers carrying Belgal to an unmarked police car, placing him in the backseat and driving him to New York Presbyterian Allen Hospital.
DHS said the ICE officers "immediately rendered aid" to Belgal. The video does not appear to show this.
Bengal survived the shooting and was taken to an ICE detention center.
Multiple elected officials are demanding that ICE release their officers' bodycam footage, to show the moments that led up to the shooting, which sparked outrage across New York City.
