The parents of a 1-year-old girl who died at a Castle Hill day care say they have unanswered questions.
The baby’s parents confirmed her name was River Wilson.
They said they believe she was not properly cared for at the day care and had unexplained scratches on her face.
River's grandfather said she was a gifted child who understood multiple languages and took dance classes.
"She really enlightened the crowd," he said. "And she could really perform."
Police sources say River got into the pool after opening the door and climbing the fence, but her family doesn't believe that's true.
According to the city’s Department of Health records, multiple violations were filed against the day care in March 2023.
One included the statement, “ Children cannot be left without competent supervision at any time."
Records show those violations were later corrected.
News 12 reached out to the day care, but it has not yet responded. No charges have been filed.
One neighbor who asked not to be identified told News 12 that the situation is heartbreaking.
"It’s especially sad when it’s a day care provider who we’re trusting to watch our children and protect our children while we’re working to support our children," they said.
