An off-duty NYPD detective was stabbed during an apparent attempted robbery in Norwood, according to city and law enforcement officials.
A source close to the investigation says the officer works at the 44th Precinct. He was attacked just after 1:45 p.m. Friday outside 3174 Rochambeau Ave.
Sources say he suffered severe lacerations to his torso, arm and leg. Paramedics rushed him to Jacobi Hospital, where he is expected to recover, according to the NYPD.
News 12 obtained exclusive video of the off-duty detective on the ground, being tended to by EMS.
Police sources say an active manhunt is underway for two men, who took off from the scene on an e-bike. The NYPD later displayed photos of the suspects on a screen at the crime scene.
The NYPD released an additional image of the two men riding the e-bike.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani and NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch visited the detective at Jacobi on Friday afternoon.
News 12 cameras caught Mamdani leaving the hospital, surrounded by a large police presence.
Minutes later, Mamdani posted about the attack on X.
"Earlier today, an off-duty NYPD detective was stabbed several times in the Bronx during what preliminary information indicates was an attempted robbery.
I visited the detective and his family at Jacobi Hospital with Police Commissioner Tisch.
He is thankfully in stable condition, and I am hoping for his quick and complete recovery. I am confident that the NYPD will identify and apprehend the suspects and that the people responsible will be held to account."
No arrests have been made as of 5:30 a.m. Saturday.
The following statement has been made by Detectives Endowment Association President Scott Munro:
"There's nowhere to run and nowhere to hide."
"The Detectives' Endowment Association (DEA) is standing by an NYPD detective who was stabbed seven times this afternoon in the Norwood section of the Bronx, while off-duty."
"As our brother detective recovers from injuries sustained during an off-duty robbery in the Bronx, the DEA stands firmly by his side. The perpetrators may think they got away, but they didn't count on the full force of NYPD detectives searching for them. There's nowhere to run and nowhere to hide. This union will not stop until those responsible are held accountable - for our brother in blue and all New Yorkers."
