A three-alarm fire damaged an eye care facility on Bergenline Avenue in West New York on Tuesday morning. It was believed to have started around 4 a.m. and now seems to be under control.
Chief Dave Donnarumma said that the original call came in at 4:30 a.m. Crews from multiple towns responded to the fire, including West New York, Jersey City, Hoboken and Bayonne.
They extinguished the fire on the first floor of the eyeglass shop quickly, according to Donnarumma.
The bulk of the damage is inside Avenue Eye Care. Debris can be seen through the window. There is some damage to the floor and hanging from the ceiling.
Donnarumma said the residents living above the eyeshop evacuated safely. He said that there were no civilian injuries.
One firefighter suffered minor injuries.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
