A 57-year-old woman was found dead inside her Grand Concourse apartment Friday afternoon after suffering trauma to her head and torso, according to police.
Police sources tell News 12 that the woman's son has been identified as a person of interest in the investigation. Authorities have not officially classified the case as a homicide and have not named any suspects.
The victim was identified by her family as Josefa Soto DeGuzman, 57.
Her husband spoke exclusively with News 12 and said he was the one who discovered her unresponsive inside their home.
According to the husband, he went into the living room Friday afternoon to speak with his wife and found her on the couch covered in blood. He said his son was not inside the apartment at the time and that he immediately called 911.
Police say they received the emergency call shortly before 3:30 p.m. at 1236 Grand Concourse.
Responding officers found DeGuzman unconscious and unresponsive, with trauma to her head and torso. EMS pronounced her dead at the scene.
The victim's husband told News 12 that his son has struggled with mental health issues. However, he said his wife and son were very close and spent a significant amount of time together.
Police have not announced any arrests. The death has not yet been officially ruled a homicide, and authorities have not identified any suspects publicly.
The investigation remains ongoing.
