A 23-year-old woman has died after being shot in University Heights Thursday morning.
Police responded to 2158 Aqueduct Ave. just after 12 a.m. in front of a playground.
Upon arrival, they found 23-year-old, Reyna Caceres, with a gunshot wound to her left eye.
She was transported by EMS to St Barnabas Hospital but did not survive.
Chanel said she lives across the street from where the deadly shooting happened. She was woken up by the loud noises. "I heard shots, when I looked down I seen a young lady, shaking, covered in blood."
Neighbors told News 12, they saw more than 30 people hearing music and being loud at the park. Chanel said she usually reports the loud noises, but hesitated to call police last night.
This morning, she regretted her decision.
"I feel really bad, I feel like maybe I could've helped," she said.
The crime scene remained untouched for several hours. A white shirt with blood stains laid next to a liquor bottle, steps from a hookah and a red Target bag.
It's unclear if the items belonged to Caceres or anyone involved in the shooting.
As investigators remained on the scene throughout the morning, Aqueduct Avenue and Clinton Place remained blocked off by caution tape.
Neighbors were feeling frightened by the police presence just steps from a school and several homes.
"So many youth come here, you want this to be a place of peace, but you have to watch your back, it's kind of crazy," said one neighbor, Quintin Coakley.
The investigation continues with no arrests made, and no description on who police are searching for.
