If you are looking to make a splash this summer, it may be time to pull back the pool cover. On those hot, humid days you can’t beat a refreshing dip, but you are paying for it.
Marshal Cohen, the chief retail analyst at Circana, is diving into some of those pool costs.
“If you're using a pool service that runs at about $350 just to open, clean and shock your pool,” he said.
If you’re willing to learn and put in the work, you don’t have to call on a professional company. Those who tend to their own pool all season can score some big savings.
“If you're lucky to have the equipment, the knowledge and the desire to do it yourself, that runs only at about $48 for the chemicals to clean the pool,” said Cohen.
Many choose to make their memories with their community. The local, town pool often becomes a summer hot spot for area families with costs around $10 a day for adults and seven dollars for kids.
Some have the luxury of swimming in a different spending bracket. Country clubs offer an up-scale pool and social experience for a season-long vacation at home.
“If you just want to be a social member, that gives you the use of the club for dining and for pool, those umber run about $18 to $24 thousand dollars for most of the clubs in our area,” said Cohen.
Whether you’re swimming in a public, private or plastic poolside can be your best side if you budget right.
