A 15-year-old Bronx teenager has died after being shot Thursday morning in the Claremont section of the borough, according to police.
Authorities identified the victim as Javits Frimpong, who lived just two blocks from where the shooting occurred.
News 12 spoke with the victim's father outside their home Thursday afternoon. Thomas Frimpong describes his son as a very clever boy.
"He was on his way to school," says Thomas, speaking about what his son was doing before the shooting.
Police said the shooting happened shortly before 9:30 a.m. near East 171st Street and Third Avenue.
Javits Frimpong was initially taken by NYPD officers to St. Barnabas Hospital and was reported in stable condition. Police later said he succumbed to his injuries.
Thomas says he learned of the shooting from his son's principal at Dreamyard Preparatory. He added that the principal had called him a few days prior because there had been an incident at school.
"They said that two boys had been suspended because my son always complained that they're bullying him," said Thomas.
Investigators are searching for three people in connection with the shooting. No descriptions were immediately available.
"I want very high justice for my son. Innocent boy," said Thomas.
Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact the NYPD.
