St. Raymond Academy for Girls in the Bronx will permanently close at the end of the 2026-27 school year after more than 65 years.
The Parkchester school is expected to close in June. Parents and students told News 12 they are saddened by the news.
In a letter to families, the Rev. James Cruz said enrollment has remained at approximately half of the school's capacity despite years of efforts to support the school and make Catholic education accessible to families. He said the parish determined it could no longer sustain the school at its current enrollment.
The parish says it will provide tuition assistance for current students who complete the school year and transfer to either the Academy of Mount St. Ursula or St. Catharine Academy, both in the Bronx.
The closure does not impact the boys high school or elementary school. School leaders say an informational meeting will be scheduled in the coming weeks to provide families with support in finding schools and information about scholarships.
