St. Mary's in Yonkers, otherwise known as the Church of the Immaculate Conception, held a special Sunday service honoring the late Pope Francis and his legacy.
The Mass welcomed elected officials from Yonkers and Parishioners inside the over 175-year-old church.
Parishioners say Pope Francis' work and legacy will not be forgotten.
“Having a pope to be there for us, advocate for us...so the passing of the pope is very sad for the Catholic community," said Rebecca Jacques, whose son, Matthew is an altar boy.
For the past couple of months, the future of the parish was uncertain. Earlier this month, the church won its appeal to continue as an independent parish.
