Residents in one Bronx neighborhood are demanding additional safety measures at a dangerous intersection.
They say a multicar collision occurred between Givan and De Reimer avenues this past Wednesday, and that these crashes are becoming all too common in the area.
"[I am] so mad because this keeps happening on the Givan Avenue," says resident Akosua Gyimah. "[it's] very unsafe!"
This follows a string of other traffic accidents occurring along Givan Avenue.
Downer was struck by Sheydon McLean, a 25-year-old from the Bronx, who police say drove his BMW through a red light on Nov. 30 and crashed into a truck driver at the intersection of Eastchester Road and Givan Avenue.
The impact was so forceful that the BMW spun out into Downer, who had parked his car outside of his home.
Ironically, News 12 interviewed Downer back in 2017, when a car came crashing into the side of his home, just narrowly missing his living room.
In response to the string of accidents, Downer's family reached out to the Department of Transportation to advocate with them for the Super Speeder Bill.
The bill would require the worst offenders to have technology installed on their vehicles to prevent drivers from exceeding the speed limit.
Neighbors say they hope that in the meantime, speedbumps should be put in place to prevent future accidents.
