The Hutchinson Metro Center is a 40-acre oasis in the heart of Morris Park. It's comprised of 80 businesses that total more than 8,000 permanent jobs. Simone Development Companies developed the center by filling it with office spaces, essential businesses, medical centers and more. "It's bustling. And I think each business kind of feeds upon the other. So activity kind of creates activity," said Joe Simone, president of Simone Development Companies. People say the center is a hub for academia because it houses Mercy College, Montefiore Hospital and several health care providers on site, as well as transportation, with train stations nearby and hospitality, including the Residence Inn by Marriot in the Bronx. "Being within the Metro Center gives us a great advantage because it's free parking and it's well lit in the evening. You feel like you're in a corporate campus in the suburbs within the Bronx," said Clement Carey, the general manager of the Residence Inn by Marriot in the Bronx. The hotel has 125 rooms, all with kitchens and living rooms to cater toward longer stays. The manager said the hotel is always busy and services many medical professionals on assignments in the Bronx. "Bringing hospitality, academia and health care in one central location is a one stop shop for our Bronx residents. That is what drew us here," said Scott Edelman, executive director of Burke Rehabilitation. The rehab center operates two floors of the Hutchinson Metro Center's office space, which also houses several other businesses and health care companies. There's also a Chipotle, Dunkin' and several other food providers and retail spots. Joe Simone says there's room to grow and develop more space for Bronx residents to enjoy. "It's been a work in progress, It's been an evolution, and I think the best is yet to come," said Simone. With the new Metro North station being built next door, the Hutchinson Metro Center will be serving many more Bronxites very soon.
