It’s a big baseball weekend in the Bronx as the Subway Series gets underway Friday night between the Yankees and Mets.
The two teams meet head-to-head for the first time in 2025.
Both teams enter the series in first place of their respective eastern divisions.
The Mets travel to the Bronx, holding the second-best record in all of baseball.
The weekend also marks the return of Juan Soto to Yankee Stadium. It is his first visit as a Met since he left the Bronx Bombers last offseason and signed with the crosstown rivals.
Families and friends told News 12 that they’re split between the Mets and Yankees.
“I’ll watch the Mets,” said Iris Vidal-Colon, a Yankees fan sitting with her Husband, a Mets fan. “[Francisco] Lindor is outstanding, but I’m a Yankee fan. Soto? I got issues.”
“It’s only baseball, man,” said Josh Dallas, a Mets fan who is attending the game with his friend, a Yankees fan. “It’s not life.”
Fans told News 12 that regardless of their fandom, they believe Soto wasn’t going to receive a warm welcome back to the Bronx.
