Early voting is underway for New York City's primary election, giving voters the opportunity to cast their ballots ahead of Election Day.

The eight-day early voting period began Saturday and runs through June 21. Voters across the city, including in The Bronx, can participate at designated early voting locations before Primary Election Day.

Several races will appear on this year's ballot, including contests for state comptroller, State Senate and State Assembly seats.

Because it is a primary election, only voters registered with a political party are eligible to vote in that party's primary.

Voters who prefer to cast their ballots from home can request an early mail ballot through the New York City Board of Elections.

Polling site hours vary throughout the early voting period. Sites close at 5 p.m. Saturday, while many locations will offer extended weekday hours and remain open until 8 p.m.

There are more than two dozen early voting sites throughout The Bronx. Voters can visit the Board of Elections website to find their assigned polling location and review sample ballots before heading to the polls.
