It was an eventful weather day on Friday, as Bronx residents battled both high heat - and then a quick but powerful rain storm.
Wind from the storm knocked down several trees around the borough, including one on Coster Street in Hunts Point, which fell between two cars - and took a few powers lines with it.
"I actually heard a boom - a big, large bang, and that's when I saw people putting the yellow tape outside," said Mariah, who lives right next to where the tree fell. "Lucky, it wasn't worse."
The city says only one person in the Bronx ended up losing power.
For most, Friday was just a pool day, while others called up the FDNY for help opening up fire hydrants.
On Creston Avenue, a crowd gathered on the sidewalk around one of the hydrants.
"We started this about 1 p.m., and they came and they opened it a little bit more so that we could have fun," said Betsy Robles.
The party kept going into the evening, with Robles and her friends breaking out the grill, and cooking for anyone in the area who wanted to come by.
"I look at the news, I call my close friend, another neighbor, and we just did it," said Sandra Perez. "Good food, good company, and you got a little touch of little sprinkles."
Perez and Robles says this setup is something they do a few times every summer together.
