Officials have identified the man fatally struck by a driver going the wrong way in the Tremont section of the Bronx early Monday morning.

The New York City Department of Transportation says 68-year-old Ismael Rodriguez, of the Bronx, was attempting to cross the intersection of Park Avenue and East Tremont Avenue around 5:55 a.m.

Officials say the preliminary investigation shows a white car heading north in the southbound lane of Park Avenue as it approached East Tremont Avenue. The driver struck the man and left the scene.

Rodriguez sustained severe trauma to the head and body and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are looking for the vehicle and the person who was driving it.
