At least eight people were hurt, including a bus driver, after an MTA bus crashed in Morrisania.
It happened along East 163rd Street between Prospect and Cauldwell avenues.
The Bx6 bus was traveling with passengers toward Union Avenue when the bus collided with multiple vehicles that were both occupied and unoccupied.
One vehicle was completely mangled around a trash can and streetlight along Tinton Avenue. Surveillance video shows the bus appear to be traveling uncontrollably fast before it collided with the car. The bus finally came to a halt near prospect Avenue.
The bus lost control after the 63-year-old driver attempted to activate the emergency break, the NYPD said.
A passenger onboard said the doors on the bus were not opening – some kicked the front glass door to get off while others climbed out of the back windows.
"It was showing signs of shutting down near 3rd Avenue, I felt the impact from the back. I climbed through the window, the doors weren’t opening,” said Ahmed Sugri.
The MTA is looking into a possible mechanical issue as a cause for the crash.
