A two-alarm fire destroyed the top floor of a three-story apartment building.
The FDNY says the fire started in a stairwell between the top floor and the roof at 729 E 215th St.
It broke out just before 9 a.m. Friday.
The windows of the third floor are now shattered, and the ceiling is partially collapsed.
Over 100 firefighters and EMS were at the scene of the fire.
News 12 was told by the FDNY that one firefighter and four people sustained minor injuries. News 12 saw one man being bandaged up outside the building.
Cheryl Henley lives on the third floor of the building next to where the fire broke out, sharing a wall with them.
“Knocking on the door saying, 'Fire, fire.' Everybody had to leave the building, so we all left. We all left and then I grabbed my son. And I just run out the building. They had to help me downstairs because my legs not good…by the grace of God, I’m still alive. I’m just thankful they get me out in time,” said Henley.
She says she's grateful that no one was seriously hurt but is worried about the damage in her apartment from firefighters efforts.
“They are saying I have a lot of water and stuff like that, so they can’t let me know if I can go back in," said Henley.
Fire marshals said they are still trying to figure out the cause of the fire, which they have not deemed suspicious. A vacate order was issued for the building the fire started in.
