The FDNY says a third-alarm fire broke out at an apartment building in Highbridge on Thursday.
Firefighters were called to 1040 Anderson Ave. just after 5:30 p.m., the same building where a 15-month-old child was injured in a separate fire two months prior.
Fire officials say the flames first erupted on the first floor of the six-story building and spread to the second. Over 140 fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene.
One neighbor said he saw and smelled smoke in his apartment, and they quickly evacuated.
"It makes me feel scared. Sad. We can't sleep at night," one neighbor said.
The FDNY says a nearby hydrant froze in the cold — briefly impacting operations — but crews were still able to get the fire under control.
No injuries have been reported. The Red Cross says the organization is helping any impacted families.
