Two teenagers are recovering in the hospital after police said they were shot Monday afternoon in Wakefield.
It happened around 4:40 p.m. on Schieffelin Avenue near the Baychester Houses.
Police said a 16-year-old boy was shot in the right arm and a 15-year-old boy was shot in the rear.
Both victims were taken to Jacobi Hospital and are in stable condition.
Police said they’re searching for a man wearing all black who took off in a white sedan.
One woman declined to go on camera, but she told News 12 she heard at least five gunshots.
Another woman said officers were shining flashlights and looking for evidence near the basketball courts at the Edenwald playground, which is located nearby.
“I just think it’s messed up because kids are trying to have fun for the summertime,” said Dave, who has three children. “We’ve got the sprinklers on, but with the teenager kids, it’s like they can’t even come have fun because kids are just dealing with so much beef or ops of whatever they call it. It’s just sad that the kids can’t even come and have fun.”
